A bit of History - Troyeville
Troyeville was named after surveyor G.A Troye.
On the eastern edge of the city centre, there are three areas namely, Lorentzville, Bertams and Judiths Paarl originally part of the Doornfontein farm.
Johannesburg or City of Gold as it is known after gold was discovered here in 1886. People from all over the world flocked to the city in search for their share of the riches. Although, Lorenzville and Johannesburg has degenerated over time, it is still seen as a place of hope for residents and migrants alike.
Troyeville as a suburb has been the hangout for well-known artists, musicians, political activists and sports fans for generations. The The Troyeville was built in 1939 and since then the restaurant has featured consistently in lists of the best places to eat in Johannesburg. The The Troyevilles hosted regular book evenings and became a fixture of the city’s cultural life, attracting everyone from strip club owners to cabinet ministers.
The Troyeville is located on the edge of the Joburg CBD. Close to Maboneng on Albertina Sisulu Road one of the main arteries to OR Tambo International Airport.
We are within walking distance to Emirates Airline Park (Ellis Park Rugby Stadium) and The Africa Games Athletics Stadium.
The eastern edge of Johannesburg is well known for graffiti and street art. The area itself is very industrial, with many old warehouses and factories. Although Troyeville is perceived to be an undesirous suburb, this is a huge misconception and the owners of The Troyeville have ensured that as part of the investment in the precinct includes full security upgrades and clean up of the immediate area.
