Press Release

01 September 2021

The iconic The Troyeville established in 1939 situated in 1403 Albertina Sisulu Road

Corner Wilhemeina Street, Troyeville, Johannesburg, 2094 South Africa, undergone a significant refurbishment. The entire precinct has been overhauled and restored with some exciting new offerings, ranging from a stylish Roof-Top Bar, a Coffee Shop, a Pizza, Gin & Wine Garden, a Sports Bar as well as Conferencing Facilities. Some of the original features which the Troyeville became known for such as the Public Bar and the Restaurant remain intact (except for slight upgrades) to preserve the history of the building and to act as a reminder of the hotel’s former life.

The new look is thanks to a substantial investment not only into the precinct but in the surrounding area too. Said Raul de Lima (CEO), “I believe the transformation of the new and improved The Troyeville is welcome addition to this part of the Johannesburg CBD. We had a vision to impress our local community/Joburger’s with tons of old character intertwined with modern contemporary twists. It was also important to make sure our guests feel safe and to that end, the road at the back of The Troyeville has been boomed-off, with 24 hours security to create a secure parking area with direct access to at the rear of venue.”

The main entrance has been significantly upgraded and great detail has gone into the street-facing signage. This entrance is designed to accommodate drop-off and go only guests which is convenient for customers arriving by taxi or Uber.

As you walk into the grand main entrance, with low hanging designer light shades, to your right is The Troyeville Coffee Shop; one of the new offerings. This pristine area with its clean edges and granite top counters offers a wonderful space for customers to enjoy their morning coffee, serving breakfast, freshly baked Portuguese breads and pastries (Patéis de Nata) daily from 7am.

To your left you will find the well-known Public Bar, which has been freshened up but remains largely untouched in order to keep its nostalgic feel.

The Troyeville is a legendary venue for watching sporting events and the pub showcases a wonderful display of recognised South Africa sporting figures in black wooden frames with non-reflective art glass.

A ramp (for wheelchair access) leads you up to the main restaurant. This area has been tastefully revamped with a fresh, clean and understated look and feel. The owners have included a glass wine cellar to display a wide array of wines to match any palate. The Troyeville, known for serving simple and authentic Portuguese cuisine has remained the focus of the menu with a few new continental culinary additions.

In the centre of the room is a pillar with four large TV screens to ensure guests can enjoy any sporting event. Proudly overlooking the Joburg City skyline customers can enjoy their meal inside or on the outside covered patio.

To the right of the main restaurant is another new addition. The Troyeville “Sports Bar” – a full length bar with TV screens overhead and a large screen for all major sporting events. Upstairs leads you to a quaint family friendly Pizza, Gin and Wine Garden. The perfect spot to enjoy sundowners overlooking the City of Gold.

Moving upwards on a unique industrial elevator ride to the 2nd floor, The Troyeville owners have converted the hotel rooms into a superb Conferencing Centre. This event space is perfect for corporate and private functions. This versatile venue has a capacity to accommodate 120 guests seated or 170 guests standing.

To ‘top’ it all off the investors have turned an ordinary roof-top into the breath-taking “Sunset 1403 Roof-top Bar”. No expense was spared on this remarkable rooftop venue, with its modern sky view bar, the furniture is a tasteful and provides casual seating and sun loungers perfect for small groups.

Enjoy the Jozi sunset and stunning city lights while indulging in expertly mixed cocktails, premium beverages, wines and beers and a well-developed menu. On Friday and Saturday, the resident DJ Mzwa Ngubeni will be on deck as well as hosting young up- can-coming DJ’s to showcase their music.

On Sunday afternoon, guests can chill on the Sunset 1403 while soaking up the tunes by Sheldon Sham a Professional Saxophonist. The Sunset 1403 is open from Wednesday to Friday 4pm to 9pm and Saturday from 12pm to 9pm and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm.
